From the onset of the war on Gaza, which started in October 2023, Microsoft workers have been protesting against the company's contracts with the Israeli military to provide cloud storage and artificial intelligence services via Microsoft Azure, which is used in military services. There has reportedly been a significant increase in the purchase of services from Microsoft Azure (alongside other services from Google Cloud and Amazon's AWS), supplying the military with greater computing and storage services, and striking at least $10m in deals to provide thousands of hours of technical support.
In one investigation, it was found that AI models from Microsoft and Open AI had been used as part of an Israeli military program to select bombing targets in Gaza and Lebanon.
