Myanmar: Garment workers forced to sign contract reducing their rights or face dismissal; incl. co. responses
In July 2024, it was reported that workers at Sheng Mei Garment are facing a series of violations, including denial of leave for public holidays, mandatory overtime shifts everyday without a day off and short 10-minute lunch breaks, reduction in overtime pay, bonuses and allowances, wage increases only applying to garment workers and excluding workers in other departments, the issuing of new rules for worker that reduce their rights and threatening to fire workers if they violate them, and the WCC failing to solve workers' problems as they are supervisors in the factory.
In December 2024, Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited BESTSELLER, Lidl, New Yorker (for FBSister), OVS SpA and Shimamura (for Closshi) to respond.
