UAE: Domestic worker executed in Abu Dhabi over child's death following alleged forced confession; incl. co. response
In March 2025, Middle East Eye reported that an Indian woman was executed in Abu Dhabi after being convicted of killing her employers' child. The Government convicted the worker following alleged “forced confessions” and without access to a fair trial.
The worker migrated to Abi Dhabi in 2021 after an "Indian businessman" on Facebook (part of Meta) offered her false promises of a “better future” in the UAE. Upon arrival, she experienced conditions of “bonded labour” in domestic work. Her employers later accused her of killing their child, which the Indian workers’ family denies. The worker was executed in February.
In April, the Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited Meta to respond to the article, and to outline how it monitors and removes content facilitating the recruitment of Indian workers into exploitative domestic work in the UAE. Its response can be read in full below.
