"Tristate Myanmar Garment Factory Forced to Work Without Holidays", 29 July 2024

The workers at Tristate Myanmar Co,.LTD Garment Factory in Pyinmanapin Industrial Zone, Mingalardon Township, Yangon, said they were forced to work...on public holidays and weekends...

In addition to working 3 hours of overtime every day and working without holidays, some workers suffered miscarriages and health problems. The workers said that they asked for leave due to ill health but were denied it, and that the factory cut their wages and benefits because they missed work days.

“Overtime is done every day, and there are no rest days, and the workers are also suffering from poor health. We have seen women having miscarriages...if one of them [takes] medical leave, they are dismissed from work. If they do...get leave, they will be deprived of their regular pay and daily allowance. The workers are suffering,” the workers said.

The workers said that they are humiliated because the line leaders, line supervisors, and supervisors say that they do not work overtime. The excessive overtime and lack of rest days are causing social and health problems for the workers.

“After working all week, my whole body aches, and I want to take a day off. I am also afraid of being criticized in public. I cannot do any housework or take care of the children because I do not have a day off.”...

It is known that the factory manufactured [for] brands such as OTTO, spider, New Look, Nautica, Max Mara, and CP, including M&S, which has already left Myanmar.
