Société Générale response to alleged human rights violations at TotalEnergies’ Mozambique LNG project

We acknowledge receipt of your email in which, on behalf of Business & Human Rights Resource, you draw our attention to several elements concerning the situation in Mozambique, particularly in the area of the Mozambique LNG project, and to the open letter (regarding this project) that was sent by a group of NGOs. Societe Generale also directly received this open letter through the French NGO “Les Amis de la Terre” on December 19th 2024 and sent back a formal answer to this NGO on January 20th 2025.

Societe Generale group (the “Group”) has a policy, due in particular to legal and/or contractual confidentiality obligations, of not providing information regarding specific companies or operations.

For this reason, we will not be able to comment on the elements listed in your email and in the NGOs open letter. However, we can confirm that the various points raised in these documents have been shared with the relevant teams within the bank so that they can identify any elements that may not have already been brought to their attention and analyze them in accordance with the Group’s framework.

Furthermore, the Group reminds that it remains bound by the contractual commitments made to its clients.
