Webinar: Integrating business approaches to human rights & the environment

Wednesday May 15th, 2024, 13:00 to 13:30 BST / 14:00 to 14:30 CEST

Environmental harms and risks to human rights are intrinsically linked. In that spirit UN member States recognised the right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment as a human right in 2022. However, we see that many companies are struggling with linking their environmental and human rights risk management and related sustainability agendas.

In this short, introductory webinar we will explore the interconnections between protecting the environment and respecting human rights, and what steps companies can take to address these agendas in an integrated way. We will explore the benefits of implementing human rights due diligence (HRDD) in relation to different types of environmental impacts and how this is reflected in upcoming legislation and initiatives. We will highlight how business practitioners can bring together the environmental and social impact agendas by using an HRDD approach and suggest ideas for how to start conversations within the company to break down silos and build support for integrated approaches to these complex challenges.

The webinar will be moderated by Gwendolyn Remmert, Co-Founder and Director of Sustainable Links. She will be joined by Meki (Mercedes) Nattero, Responsible Business Consultant Human Rights & Environment and Madeleine Koalick, Co-Founder and Director of Sustainable Links who will provide insights from their HREDD implementation work with companies across many sectors.
