In March 2024, 600 workers from the Chinese-owned Y&W Garment in Cambodia were left in a lurch after the factory owner declared bankruptcy and disappeared without paying their dues. The workers protested, demanding government intervention. The Phnom Penh Municipal Court ordered the seizure of factory assets to compensate the workers while multiple government agencies investigated the owner's whereabouts. Despite assurances and legal action, workers remain concerned about their livelihood. The government is working to settle the dispute in accordance with labour and bankruptcy laws while supporting the affected workers.
